Extensive transformation of corporate IT

21.09.2022 Blog

A global medical research company has comprehensively reorganized its corporate IT with the support of a transformation specialist. This was extremely successful thanks to the integrative management style: Anyone who has a say and helps to develop is also behind the implementation of the selected processes and systems.

Extensive transformation of corporate IT

A change in leadership as an opportunity for a comprehensive transformation

Our client is the leader in innovation for the surgical treatment of bone fractures and diseases. The company has a global network of over 460,000 healthcare professionals, conducts over 775 continuing education events worldwide each year with around 7,000 lecturers and 98,000 participants and employs around 18,500 surgeons.

In such a large company, IT must function smoothly to ensure both customer and employee satisfaction. The company therefore took the departure of the Head of IT as an opportunity to carry out an extensive transformation of the company's IT.

Workshops, survey and individual interviews

The project manager and transformation specialist provided by Top Fifty identified a clear discrepancy in the perception of expectations and performance between management and the IT team. Therefore, as a first step, the project manager looked for the causes, conducted individual interviews, workshops and a company-wide survey.

The project manager then defined the goals of the transformation with the management by explaining many best practices in workshops and building a tailor-made combination together with the members of the management.

In the discussions and workshops with the IT staff, long-neglected topics such as the replacement of old systems, the lack of further training for IT managers and the escalating complexity of individual systems came to light, for which solutions urgently needed to be found. Combined with the many Corona-related restrictions, a demanding crisis situation arose.

Building trust in close personal contact as an important success factor

Thanks to good cooperation between management, HR and Corporate Communications as well as the involvement of the entire IT team and close personal support for everyone involved, many new processes and a company-wide transparent tool could be introduced. It was particularly important that, despite the Corona crisis, all workshops were held as face-to-face events, because trust building works (almost) only in personal contact. Adhering to all rules of conduct and safety measures was sometimes difficult, our specialist said, but the effort was worth it: The workshops led to the desired activation, inspiration and motivation of all participants, so that a lasting change in business processes and the company - and team culture was possible.

Transformations are complex processes in which it is not uncommon for problems to come to light that have previously been successfully suppressed. Transformation specialists from Top Fifty not only have a lot of project experience, they also know the possible obstacles. We quickly and easily provide you with experts who are familiar with your industry and have proven experience as project managers.
